Gillicote Island

Some place called Gillicote Island too, but he says only in summer there, and the only people around are the sea folk, I assumed he was talking about Ash's people.

Ah, if only Ash could tell you that it is one of the northernmost pieces of land during high summer (which is only 90 days of sun and no darkness). A small place, more like a shiny gravel sandbar surrounded by long thin lagoons in the pack ice, and it is usually covered with various birds occupying the wind blasted ruins of a grey tower at its southern end. Occasionally seals can be seen offshore.

In summer there are some low sculpted bone and hide tents there sometimes, but that is mainly for protecting some items from the wind, as the Sea Folk don't mind that it is about 35 degrees and 20 knot winds here during the quiet season. The whole run around on land is novelty, and the necessary songs are usually underway once enough folk have arrived for the Keening.

The smaller villages can anchor right up close to the isle, while the other ones need to stay out in the deep water. Once the chorale is finished the peace is over and the folk can negotiate and gift in the short time remaining, before the sea calls them home again.
