While in Dunedain, this note was given to Moreau by a stranger who seemed to know him. At the time, Moreau was dressed in clothes belonging to Clifton, a recently-deceased member of the Morcar Players. It is likely that the stranger knew what Clifton would be wearing, but did not know Clifton himself, and that he mistook Moreau for him.
