Standridge to Norcastle

These are originally notes for Diane.

Standridge [Mariam's home village], which is also the name of the Knight who owns most of the land there too. Some people call it Monk town because of the monastery.

North is Hoppleton, which is mostly wool weavers and dyers, as it is many small crofts scattered around a medium sized creek and mill.

East is Waring, which is another farm area like yours is-many small hides of land and small holdings, which center around a dry mill and one of the King's Granaries.

West is Cleft, town built on a steep hillside over a standing lake, which has many deposits of clay. There are potters there, and some sheep farmers.

South is Molby Vinton, which is one of the Fair Towns. It is a place which has a charter to hold two fairs a year. It is on a south facing meadow, surrounded by woods. There is a quarry and a colony of charcoalers there. The stone is a finely veined blue gray granite. It has been used in the capitol, Beltisheim.

Between Molby Vinton and Chystyr is Marshal's Creek, named after Jehan the Marshal who kilt a bunch of bad guys near by (like 30 years ago). There is a ferry there.

The river into Chystyr (which has a stone bridge) is the Wassach River, after the local House-House Wassach under the Earl of the Southern Marches (he has about 4 or 5 towns like Chystyr under him). Chystyr has an alderman and is home to Walter Hughes, a Knight serving under Baldwin of Wassach.

Well, he is gone now, and his wife Miffanwys Wassach and the family major domo Kerk de Rigelis are nominally in charge. In fact most of the soldiers and a good proportion of the townsmen are gone. Farmhands are getting premium wages. There is news of a battle up north. Rumors have both sides claiming a huge victory...

There are some soldiers being cared for in the hospice at the monastery, wounded from earlier battles?

The next big monastery is east of you near by the City of Norcastle, known for its twin towers. It is a piece away, like a few days ride to the south and east. The roads get better here. Or you could try a river barge.

The Wassach flows into the Thunder River near there. Norcastle is a real fortified city and everything. There may be elves even. The river gets so big there that some times you can't see across it.

Diane asks:

"Do the monks at Chystyr have a map I can look at?"

Not right now. I have to draw the map first. There was one, but the spiders got it or something.

"What are the names of the next few places going south?"

See map. :)

Thanks to a couple slow mornings at work, now there is a map, right here.
