The Canticle of Refuge

Ancaster Library | T'Klendathu

The Canticle of Refuge was recovered from the ruins of Ancaster Castle in 915 AE. It was not on display at the time, and thus was saved from complete destruction when fire consumed much of the castle. The Church speculates that it was stored in a pile with other tapestries, folded accordion-style. The folds were destroyed by fire, which separated the Canticle into fifteen pieces of unequal length. There is no way of knowing its original length, or even what order the remaining pieces should be arranged in. For every time the Canticle is left unobserved, the pieces rearrange themselves. Perhaps it has absorbed some of the no doubt chaotic energies that contributed to its partial destruction.
