Diary of Barbara Zalozi
Expository details on the natures and abilities of non corporeal
creatures
Ancaster Library | T'Klendathu
4/12 It is the love of life which compels my quest, and it is
within these pages that i shall press the fruits of my knowledge from it
4/13 Bror finally completed his purchases in the city, and now we
can actually get some travelling done, as if the weather would help
4/14 Weather better, and tonight the pinch buster himself says the
conditions are correct for a cross over into the Necropolis i have been
waiting for this for some time and it appears that i or we have taken
every precaution, it will be hard to sleep, but Rhadmir says we should get
all the rest we can fine 4/14 those two have been at it for nearly
half an hour, and the goblin looks nearly done in and we haven't started
really but the journey must be had we had to offer him more money when he
saw the tomb and i also had to part with one of my kothian protection
rings but he is sound now the villas owner and our patron will be very
glad and very reward minded when we put this poor creature back to where
it belongs but i wish only to know more later time of day unknown
now but we are have done it and are inside the tomb not in the physical
sense but in the planar sense light is very weird and now kay is trying to
fiddle the lock on the inner gate here it looks difficult but he is
confident the terrain is very hilly with many small houses or crypts some
are larger the sky is very low i have checked my phylacteries and my mind
is clear the ritual worked when we invoked the spirit yes and he did come
into the circle but he was no mild spirit at all more indeed he has
explained he was not a mere spirit who sought gifts of food or wine but
was indeed a specter i had to use a minor blessing to keep him off of the
mage he seemed to hate him even after i showed him a symbol of life
Rhadmir was screaming in that queer voice of his we took him up onto one
of the small pyramids and held him until he stopped screaming he has no
marks on him i believe the spectre used an innate spell maybe madness or
terror and from here a vast plain of houses of the dead there is stony
ground and bloody footprints a temple with raised lintels far off and a
black low ziggurat just now another one was here he was a holy man in life
named Laetres of the hermetic order of osiris and warned us to leave
quickly as we were drawing spirits like a lodestone does filings it was he
who told us about Gerk and it wasnt until then we noticed him gone bad
very bad we almost didn't see that one i used a circle of blessed light
and Bror is weakened a great deal i have placed hands on him and he will
be all right but the power is weak in me i need to pray some more we have
moved kay prefers to try and break through another tomb that we may get
out again i tried to find one that was familiar to my self but they are
all so different here i think he is looting some here spectres look just
like they did alive although they can waver some they have a great deal of
skills with spells but they also seem vulnerable to them something got kay
he tried to run and Rhadmir was unfit i would not leave him i saw it and i
have bless walled across this crypt bror is watching and rhadmir is trying
to find a gate out with his staff the bless wall is holding but it is
harder now i used a banish spell and the spectre was destroyed i felt him
die poor creature where do they go now we moved again the bless wall
drained me much ran for a bit there were some man shapes in an upturned
cart or cage they came at us and rhadmir burned and slew them 4/15
early but i felt the day pass here and i am renewed but the night was grim
a thing called bror to her? and he left rhadmir went to go save him but
bror had left the circle horror it would not come within site of my sigil
and so we heard bror giggling and cooing while his bones crunched we
waited but they would not come near they are wights they were wights i
healed rhadmir after they forced out of the road and i can call fire here
they are dead or banished and it was beautiful they are much like physical
creatures fire & holy words but very strong bodies too much power being
used we must find a way out rhadmir is so spent now he coughs blood if i
heal him he is calling the portal now as i watch behind i healed him and
the strength of Epimetreus is with me i serve the lord of light and do not
fear them i will be strong even after i am Barbara of the holy flame
I Rhadmir, journeymaster of the kell peren flets do hereby attest the
following that Barbara Zalozi of Abbey Kessel the Holy Woman did accompany
myself, Gerk a worthless goblin, a city man named Kay, and Bror a tracker
from Wundt. I did witness Barbara use every wit and device a person could
encompass in one mind and she is all that stood between myself and
desecration of my body by foul human undead creatures. She is the reason
that Lord Connor will not be haunted by the shades any more, and she is
the reason I live for I swear she used her last living essence to heal me
and threw me through a portal of my own creation. I was too weak to stop
her and I could not have even if i were whole for she is was stronger than
i in many ways. Her last words in my hearing were "through me the light,
through me the balefire" which i had heard only once before at three forks
when the dark sindar stormed our palisade, and there it was a human who
called holyfire into himself. i have seen much in my life and i will more
know this that she stood before an older creature whose appearance was
dread and it called her by name. i do not have the courage to sacrifice
like that and she did although i smelled her dread and her will anyway but
i swear this in her honor, the monies i give freely to this place where
she learned from, and the honor i shall stave into a song for her that her
memory shall not perish while any fair folk yet live. i will not know this
god of the humans called mithras, i hope he is worthy of warriors like
Barbara Zalozi of Abbey Kessel.
Another carefully lettered note attached.
This letter, a chasuble and a bag of monies left upon the steps of the
altar of the Kessel Church in the 5th month 990 AE jk.
