Hyuk-Otheul the Eater of Souls

The elf eater, one of the elder, eternal spirits of the Outer planes. From a distance, it resembles a gargantuan turtle half a bowshot in width. Three club footed legs of huge girth, each as broad as an oak tree, which support a domed pearly grey shell as hard as dragon horn. Despite its appearance Hyul-Ortheul is as fleet as an ogre, and twice as voracious.

Beneath its carapace is a huge slitted mouth lined with overlapping plates of chitin. Two score tentacles, each with numerous smaller tentacles line its body. Each tentacle possesses an eye, and the tips are equipped with fierce barbs. They are purple in color and are covered with a thick layer of horn.

Hyul-Ortheul has some intelligence which is driven by its ravenous desire for the flesh of the elves.

It is immune to cold, normal acid, poison, mind spells, and death magics. The creature is very vulnerable to fire. The elf-eater can be banished by a teleport, banishment or dispel evil spell if it is inside a region of two intermingled triangles.

Hyuk-Otheul has been appearing and predating on elvenkind for generations, with the protections of the feyr-alantine being employed when this has happened. Despite this the Isle of Chrymnos and the Palace of the Ageless Moon have perished before this accursed creature.

The blood and flesh of the Hyuk-Otheul has been known to spontaneously generate into corrupted forms of foliage and trees which will then promptly devour the unwary. If any of the Huorns are exposed to significant amounts of fire or placed into an area that is completely barren of mana, they will shrivel and become dormant, eventually dying.
