Lipeth's Lament

Ancaster Library | T'Klendathu
Note: It is very likely that Lady Ancaster meant "undulant" instead of "ungulant" in the third verse of this rather amateur poem, especially given the preponderance of snakes and snake-like beings that have been found under Castle Ancaster. The key has proven very useful in those (dare I say it) dungeon expeditions.     --Diane

Here are the watchmen, here is the light.
What fears the darkness, what fears the light?
    Burn, burn, look away
    Burn, burn, gone away
A higher fire has won the day

Oh come for me my noble steed.
Do not leave me I have need,
    Ashes here, upon the gate,
Ashes there will quell its hate
Will the finder know my fate?

Not north, east, western-they are broken,
Under southern with wards spoken,
    Writhed the bale eyed ungulant
Writhed the cursed to its haunt
He will not have me, this I taunt

Where is my lord, where is the light?
What is my husband, who fears the light?
    Turn, turn, look away
    Burn, burn, look away
My love is ashes now blown away
