A Line in the Sand - Reziphel's Dilemma

Apocrypha | Sic Transit

Now I understand. Now I know how it would feel. How I would be if I fell.

I just came too close to the edge.

I'm supposed to catch them. They're supposed to be punished. We caught the bad man, Iglesias, and I know what can hurt him the most. Just a little scratch is all it took to make him cry. A little scratch on a little cup he thinks is his. Poor bastard, to care so much about a thing like that. He has bigger cups, more expensive and older and "precious" things.

I could hurt him, I could hurt him so bad. I want him to feel the pain he's caused. I could destroy these precious things he loves so dearly. That would hurt him. Not even a mark on his body, but such a scar in his mind and on his soul.

dear god...

What am I thinking!?! That's what Calabim do! No! NO! I won't do it! I won't be like that! I can't become something like that!

Oh, we are so fragile. Even the most beautiful and brightest of us can so easily grow dark and cold. God help me if I ever do...

Zenaniel:

Don't worry my beloved brother Reziphel, Zenaniel won't let you fall...

Shilom:

My dear brother Zenaniel, sometimes I pity you. You were created without the ability to know temptation. The rest of us; Angels, humans, and yes, Demons, face temptation almost daily. Little brother Rez has had a taste of what it is like to reject the darkness, and look to the light. He's a little bit stronger now because he knows a little bit more about what are his limits. You have no limits. You will never understand how strong you truly are. And how great a gift you have. I pity you.

Gaudior:

My dear sister,

You should not tease Zenaniel so. He is what he is: the most promising young Malakim I have seen in some time. To pity him for being incorruptible is as silly as pitying the sun for being warm.

Our brother Reziphel is indeed the stronger for knowing his route to damnation, and I congratulate him for his wisdom.

And lastly, I would point out that Malakim have their own temptations, to which Zenaniel will one day no doubt be exposed. That he cannot Fall is fact: that he can, nonetheless, turn his face away from God's is also fact. Neither he nor you should lose sight of the fact that such a test will come to him some day.

Gaudior Seraph,
Servitor of Blandine

Zenaniel:

The oaths that bind me to His Will are inexorable. To assume that a Makim has any choices, at any time is to deny the existence of what they are - a virtue made flesh.

Perhaps He removed that choice from the Malakim when they came into being. Having been the last Choir to become the embodiment of his Word, the Lord of Hosts deliberately made the Malakim inviolate. The bonds prevents us from ever straying, but what kind of world would this be if the Fall never happened?

If all were Malakim, then we would not need ourselves, for there would be only peace and harmony in the symphony. A symphony of one note only is not a symphony, it is a drone.

So, there are many choirs, with their angels and all of their mellifluous and creative tasks and obligations to Him. Each to their own purpose, their own fate, or their own destiny. Similar yet unique.

In the spray of rare and fragile blooms that are the bouquet of Heaven, the Malakim are an axe amongst the blossoms.

Malakim will never create, they will never love and never will they be mistaken for anything than what they are, implements of war.

Do I envy the choice that faces my brethren? I do not. I do envy their places as nurturers and caregivers to the Word. I can only watch these activities, and I will never understand them.

One day I will not be needed, perhaps then I will understand.

Weapon of the Lord
Soldier of Micheal

Shilom:

My fellow angels, let's not quarrel.

I do not pity Zenaniel for being incorruptible, but for not knowing what a truly great thing it is to be incorruptible.

Zenaniel, I have known Malakim who have created. And all angels love, even Malakim. You love. I know this. You love God.

And dear brother, listen to what Gaudior is telling you, he knows from personal experience. Malakim have their temptations. Look at those that I served with under Uriel who still wander the Marches. Learn from them not to put anything before the Lord. They serve their memory of Uriel and the Crusade, but perhaps they have forgotten that they serve the Lord.

That's my two cents worth. Neither Gaudior nor I can tell you how to find your way. With the Lord's blessing, that comes from within.

May His love be with you always. All of you.

Keeper of the Lord's Peace
Mercurian, Servitor of Dominic

Reziphel:

Dear y'all,

Ditto.

Now let's go open up a fresh can of whup-ass on some demons.
