In the Rowhouse

IN THE ROWHOUSE

Zenaniel raises his sword and cuts off the mummy's head. What a mess!

>look

You are in the living room/dining room of a rowhouse on 112th Street in New York City. An old couch, often repaired, sits along the outside wall, and there is an overstuffed chair in the corner. A small end table holds nothing. There is an oval braided rug on the floor, covered with mummy bits. But there is no trap door underneath.

There is a doorway to a small kitchen to your arbitrary north. There is a doorway to the front hall to your arbitrary east.

The headless body of a sallow-looking middle-aged Hispanic man is here, as is his head. He didn't look very healthy before Zenaniel took a sword to him, and he looks even worse now.

Zenaniel, Reziphel, Gaudior, Appoggiatura, and Shilom are here.

>examine Zenaniel

Zenaniel looks uglier than usual. His clothes are torn and stained with blood and other organic matter, some from him, and even more from the zombis.

>examine Shilom

Shilom has broken a nail during the fight, but otherwise looks like she just stepped out of a fashion magazine. Even the small wound on her cheek goes with her outfit.

>examine Gaudior

Although physically he looks somewhat decrepit, his eyes sparkle with a keen intelligence.

>examine Reziphel

He moves too fast to get a good look at him.

>examine Apogatura

There is no Apogatura here.

>oops Appoggatura

There is no Appogattura here.

>oops Kyriotate

Appoggee is currently inhabiting a squirrel. He is perched on Gaudior's shoulder to avoid wading through the mess.

You are in the front hallway of the rowhouse. A flight of stairs leads up to the second floor, and there is a small doorway under the stairs. There are no pictures or personal touches on any of the walls, though the room is scrupulously clean.

>up

The stairs double back and you are facing arbitrary north again. You are in a hall with three doors on the east wall and one door on the north. The floors here are wood and look recently waxed.

The remains of several zombis are mixing together in an indescribable heap near the second door. The smell is overpowering.

>examine first door

This is a small, neat, sterile bedroom with a window on the south wall. The closet, also on the south wall, contains exactly two shirts, a pair of pants, and one pair of shoes. The bed is against the far wall; there is nothing under or on it. The dresser next to it contains two pairs of underwear, and two pairs of socks.

>examine second door

You attempt to step over the pile of body parts, but your foot comes down on an arm, sending it rolling across the floor. This room is empty except for the remains. Long deep scratches mar the walls and floors. The bodies themselves seem mostly Hispanic. Three are dressed in working-class clothes, two are in thrift-store castoffs, one, a woman, seems to have been a prostitute, and one man is in a suit. But the suit is odd somehow...it doesn't have any pockets, and the zipper on the pants is fake.

>examine third door

The third door leads into a room with a window onto the alleyway behind. This is also a bedroom, clean, though it looks a little more lived-in. The closet contains several changes of clothing, including a Victorian-style tuxedo which smells of mothballs, a smart-looking business suit, a pair of worn boots, and a doctor's white coat. The clothing is in two distinct sizes. The mirror above the dresser is almost completely covered with newspaper clippings, mostly obituaries and stories about violent death. The dresser itself contains underwear, socks, pants, and other clothing for two different-sized people.

The door on the north wall leads to a small bathroom, also clean, with a small set of shelves filled with cleaning supplies: sponges, a bucket, various brand-name cleaners, etc. A broom and a mop lean against the shelves. The tub and toilet are sparkling.

You are in the kitchen. There is a small pantry on the east wall. The counters are spotless, the oven shines, and the refrigerator hums comfortably.

>open refrigerator

The refrigerator is likewise clean. There is a large open box of baking soda on one shelf, and a tupperware container on another. The tupperware contains... eyes. Lots of eyes, floating in... well, let's not even go into that, shall we? Whatever the red semi-gelatinous fluid is, it does not suppress the rotting odor one whit. The eyes make an awful slurping sound when the tupperware is moved.

>open pantry

The pantry contains one dish, one cup, one plate, and one set of silverware.

>open door

The door under the stairs is locked.

>break lock

That seems beyond your capabilities. Perhaps you should ask one of the angels.

>shout "Odysseus"

You hear a low agonized moan from the tupperware full of eyes...
