The Word | Sic Transit

Sunrise:

[Begin 10/23/99]

When she arrives at work, Janet is called into her boss's office. She is asked what exactly she was doing at the Grand Hyatt the evening before. The manager of the Hyatt has calling all morning. Janet, thinking fast, says that she got a call that an informant of hers was in danger, and she had to get him out of there. Once she extricated him from the situation, she let him go. Her boss is reasonably mollified by her answer, but reminds her that she is not supposed to go into situations like that without at least calling for backup. Janet apologizes and says she'll be more careful in the future.

At around 10 a.m., Zenaniel takes delivery of a very heavy package at Janet's apartment. It consists of 50 pounds of soapstone, in one and two pound blocks, and an assortment of files and chisels. Appoggee, recently awarded Stone's Kyriotate attunement, is determined to learn sculpture. Over the next few days it is not uncommon to see a squirrel out on Janet's balcony, chipping away at the rock.
