Janet has taken a couple weeks vacation from her job. Gil asked for vacation but was fired instead, although Pat tells him he should try to get his job back after he returns. She also gives him a very nice leather vest as a going-away present.
On the flight to Austin, Appoggee inhabits Reziphel's vessel while Reziphel and Gaudior are in the Marches. There is one layover at Dallas, but no one wakes Gaudior. They land at 9 pm, and pick up a red Durango from Hertz. Then they call Tomas from the airport for directions.
Appoggee first transfers into Gaudior so Reziphel can drive, and then picks up a stray cat at a gas station. Janet insists on stopping at a supermarket for flea shampoo, a roasting pan, a flea collar, and a few gallons of distilled water (not to mention the Snickers bars for Reziphel), and the cat is then bathed in the back of the van.
Tomas is located on the third floor of an apartment building near 6th Street. He buzzes them in, and introductions are made all around. They all head out to the Headliner's Club, where Viper Horse is playing. It's a very loud band. They are introduced to Tomas's friend Wrench.
Appoggee picks up one of the single teenagers, tries dancing, and ends up knocking over a whole bunch of people. A fight is about to happen, but Zenaniel intervenes. Appoggee slinks out of the club, lets the guy go, and decides to stick with the cat.
They leave the club at about 12:30, and spend the night at Tomas's place, discussing various philosophical subjects. Tomas asks Appoggee how long it's been since it's seen Eli, and tells Appoggee about the music scene in Austin, and how he and Wrench met.
Reziphel goes out cruising, and ends up on frat row at the University of Texas. He happens upon one of his reasons for existing: a cruel frat boy named Mark. He plays quarters with him, gets him drinking a lot, and finally leaves. Early in the morning, he calls him on the phone to wake him up but wakes up his roommate instead. Then he starts thinking about how to find out what the guy did, and the best way to punish him.
Zenaniel gives a position report to Michael.
